JSPS Alumni Association Chapters

The US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association created a Chapter system in January 2020. This page lists the current Chapters (and those pending approval) and provides an overview of what is a Chapter in addition to what is involved in applying to start a Chapter.

  • California Chapter (including Hawaii), established in 2024
  • Capital Region Chapter (DC, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia), established in 2021
  • Central Chapter (Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma), established in 2025
  • Gulf States Chapter (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida), established in 2023
  • Northeast Chapter (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine), established in 2025
  • Northwest Chapter (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota), approval pending
  • North Central Chapter (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa), approval pending
  • OKII Chapter Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana), established in 2025
  • Southeast Chapter (Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia), approval pending
  • Southwest Chapter (Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico), approval pending

What is a Chapter?

  • Members of the Alumni Association can form into a group called a “Chapter” which can hold events for the purpose of promoting activities of the Alumni Association.
  • The Chapter shall use the name of the Alumni Association and the logo of the Alumni Association for its activities.
  • Chapter and non-Chapter members may participate in a Chapter’s activities.

What is involved in applying to start a Chapter?

The establishment of a new Chapter requires the approval of the Alumni Association Board of Directors according to the Chapter Application Criteria document. The following two steps explain how to apply for the establishment of a new Chapter:

Step 1: Prepare the following three documents for a new Chapter application.

1) APPLICATION FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CHAPTER (Form A) *
2) CHAPTER MEMBER LIST (Form B)
3) LIST OF CHAPTER RULES (in any format)

Step 2: Completed application forms should be submitted to the JSPS Washington Office by email (Email: us-alumni [at] jspsusa.org) with “Application for the Establishment of a Chapter” as the Subject line (minus the quotes).

Once approved, a Chapter must annually report its activities to the Board of Directors by the end of every fiscal year (March 31) using the below form:

The completed Chapter Annual Report form should be submitted to the JSPS Washington Office by email (Email: us-alumni [at] jspsusa.org) with “Submission for the Annual Report of a Chapter” as the Subject line (minus the quotes).

** Please submit an annual report by the end of every fiscal year (March 31). If there are any changes in the content of 1), 2), 3), please resubmit them with the annual report.
