Collaborative Research Resulting from BRIDGE Fellowship Program FY 2018 Report

After the BRIDGE Fellowship award in 2018 (ID No. BR 180403), Duy H. Hua (PI) has received an award from JSPS US Alumni Association to organize a Seminar Program in 2019 at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas from August 15 to 17, 2019, entitled “Designing Molecules Workshop and Conference – 2019”. There were 67 participants in the meeting and ten lectures along with ~ thirty poster presentations. Two Japanese full professors, Kiyosei Takasu and Keiji Maruoka, along with three other Japanese scientists attended the meeting.

During the BRIDGE award, Hua gave a seminar at the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, University of Kanazawa on July 27, 2018 and Professor Tomoyuki Yoshimura was the host. Tomoyuki recommended Dr. Shunya Morita to carry out postdoctoral research in Hua’s laboratory and Shunya jointed Hua group in April 2021. Shunya is knowledgeable, hard-working, and collaborative. He is a co-author of a submitted manuscript, which is being revised and is also a co-author of a second manuscript to be submitted in February 2022. This would not have happened without funding and support from The BRIDGE award, which is greatly appreciated. Hua continues communication with Kiyosei Takasu and Keiji Maruoka at Kyoto University on catalysis chemistry. Due to Covid-19, no collaborative research is carried out.

Hua serves as a board member for JSPS US-Canada Alumni Association since 2020 and is planning to introduce a new Chapter on “Catalysis and Climate Change”. Several new members have agreed to join the Chapter. The Chapter is being considered and developed.
