JSPS US AA Seminar Program 2020 (2nd application call)

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Washington Office provides a program for the members of the US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association to support academic seminars organized by Association members to promote the objectives of the Association. This program, called the JSPS US and Canada Alumni Association Seminar Program, aims to fulfill the following three objectives:

1. Foster and encourage the Association members to maintain and develop relationships with researchers in Japan.
2. Organize events that enhance communication among the Association members and with researchers in Japan.
3. Support other academic activities initiated by the Association members.
Targeted Research Fields

The applicable research fields supported by this seminar program include any fields of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; however, it does not support subjects related to military affairs.

Eligibility for this seminar program is limited to applicants who meet the following conditions:
  • Be a regular member of the US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association.
  • Be a researcher affiliated with a research organization in the US or Canada.

Approximately four seminars will be supported in any given fiscal year and the amount of funding will be determined by review of the application, but each seminar will have a maximum funding level of $5,000 (USD) other than costs for a Japanese researcher. Further details about the terms of funding, the requirements for applications, selection criteria, and other information are found in the seminar program Application Guidelines document available here as a PDF file.

Please read the seminar program Application Guidelines document - available here as a PDF file - before submitting your application. If you have any questions, please contact the JSPS Washington Office at seminar [at] jspsusa.org.

For this call, JSPS allows applicants to plan a seminar using online meeting systems to invite a Japanese researcher in Japan, in order to promote international academic exchange as much as possible in the situations where the governments limit mobility across borders under the COVID-19 outbreak.

Again, the deadline for your application to the seminar program is July 31, 2020. Good luck!
