Sven K. Nelson

Sven Nelson is a USDA/ARS postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Missouri.  His Ph.D. work focussed on understanding the molecular mechanisms and hormonal regulation of seed dormancy using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.  Sven has had a long-standing connection with Japan starting with his time living in Hokkaido as an English teacher (ALT) as part of the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Programme from 2005 to 2007.  Research collaborations with Japanese scientists have allowed frequent visits to Japan during his Ph.D. career for research purposes, including his JSPS fellowship during the summer of 2013 at the RIKEN Plant Science Center in Yokohama.  He is currently embarking on a project looking at the effects of water deficit on wheat roots under drought stress.
