Updated bylaws in effect

Updated bylaws for the US JSPS Alumni Association have been posted on the association's web site.  Article 4, section 2 concerning Membership has been revised to expand the association's membership to Canada as follows:  "Persons who have been funded and/or awarded by JSPS and currently residing or have an affiliation with a research organization in the U.S. or Canada are eligible for regular membership."

2018 BRIDGE FELLOWSHIP AWARDEES ANNOUNCED

The JSPS Washington Office has announced the 2018 BRIDGE Fellowship awardees - our congratulations to the following four individuals and we look forward to their reports following their upcoming experiences in Japan:

New Short-term Fellowship through the US JSPS Alumni Association

The JSPS Washington Office is pleased to announce a new short-term Fellowship through the US JSPS Alumni Association (AA).  It aims to extend and expand the researchers network developed between AA members and the researchers in Japan, increase the benefit of  membership, and encourage more former fellows to join the Alumni Association.

JSPS US AA Seminar Program 2018 (2nd application call)

The JSPS Washington Office is pleased to announce the 2nd application call for the 2018 year JSPS US Alumni Association Seminar Program.  This new program was established for the members of the US JSPS Alumni Association to support academic seminars organized by Association members to promote the objectives of the Association.  

We are now accepting proposals for seminars to be held between October 2018 and February 2019

The deadline for application materials to be received by the JSPS Washington Office is June 30, 2018.

2018 JSPS US Alumni Association Seminar Program Awardee Announced

The JSPS Washington Office has announced the name of the first awardee for the 2018 year JSPS US Alumni Association Seminar Program.  We offer our congratulations to Dr. Matthew J. Major, Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, whose seminar, titled "Neuromechanics of Rehabilitation for Lower Limb Loss," will take place on 11 June 2018 at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL.  Please see the Seminar Program 2018 page for more details.

Bridge Fellowship reports from four “BRIDGE Fellows” now available

Four “BRIDGE Fellows” have submitted reports about their recent 2017 fellowships back to Japan. Dr. Neel Savani (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and University of Maryland Baltimore County) and Dr. Daniel Nover (University of California, Merced) completed their fellowship visits last November; then Dr. Harinantenaina Liva Romuald RAKOTONDRAIBE (College of Pharmacy, The Ohio State University and) Dr. Ming-Cheh Liu (Health Science Campus, University of Toledo) visited Japan in December – please read their JSPS Bridge Fellowship reports found on the BRIDGE Fellowship Awardee History web page.  And don’t forget the upcoming application deadline of February 9, 2018, for 2018 Bridge Fellowships – see the announcement here.

Announcement of the 2018 BRIDGE Fellowship

The JSPS Washington Office has officially announced the 2018 BRIDGE Fellowship.

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides opportunities for overseas researchers who have conducted research activities under JSPS International Fellowships for Research in Japan or other JSPS programs to come back to Japan to create, sustain and/ or strengthen research collaborations with Japanese colleagues. The objective is to build strong networks among researchers in Japan and other countries through a variety of activities. These include former JSPS fellows visiting their past host institutions in Japan, or coming to Japan to plan or implement joint research projects and seminars, to offer training or lectures for young researchers, or to prepare or attend scientific conferences and research meetings.

The 2018 BRIDGE Fellowship application deadline is February 9, 2018.

The JSPS US Alumni Association is happy to announce the call for applications for the 2018 Seminar Program.  

The Seminar Program is a new program for members of the US JSPS Alumni Association to support academic seminars to foster and maintain relationships with researchers in Japan, to enhance communication with researchers in Japan, and to support the academic activities of Association members.

2017 JSPS US Alumni Association Seminar Program Awardees Announced

The JSPS Washington Office has announced the names of the two awardees for this year’s JSPS US Alumni Association Seminar Program.  We offer our congratulations to:

  • Dr. Mohammad O. Hoque, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, Johns Hopkins University

    Dr. Hoque's research interests are to develop and validate genetic and epigenetic approaches for early cancer diagnosis, cancer risk assessment and cancer prognosis in addition to the study of molecular biologic basis of head and neck, lung and genitourinary cancer.

  • Dr. Ramesh P. Singh, Professor, Schmid College of Science and Technology, Chapman University

    Dr. Singh's research interests include the study of natural hazards, early warning of coastal earthquakes, soil moisture, landslides, snow avalanches, floods, dust storms, remote sensing applications, geophysical explorations, atmospheric pollution and mining environment.

We look forward to receiving more information about these first seminars under this new program, both of which will be held in February 2018, as plans and other details becomes available (information which will be posted here) as well as reports on their final outcomes.
