JSPS FELLOWSHIP Stories in US and Canada JSPS AA

JSPS Washington Office and the US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association jointly held the first in an online series of events entitled “JSPS FELLOWSHIP Stories”.

The online event took place on Wednesday evening of February 15, 2023. There were three featured alumni speakers and the session was moderated by Dr. Wade Sisk, Program Manager, US Department of Energy.

At this meeting, about 30 Alumni Association members and former fellows were in the audience. The speakers of this first-time event, were Dr. Alexander Bay, Associate Professor, Dept. of History at Chapman University; and Dr. Stephane Aris-Brosou, Associate Professor, Dept. of Biology at the University of Ottawa; and Dr. Genhua Niu, Professor, Dept. of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University. Each talked about their fellowship experiences in Japan and how it benefitted their careers. Further they mentioned how meaningful it was to experience the culture of Japan and work with fellow researchers.

The Zoom audience members received the speakers enthusiastically and asked various questions. The speakers did their best to answer the questions and even other alumni members in the audience offered input. It became a fruitful event also for networking. We hope this series will become popular and other alumni chapters may want to host some talks in the future.
